Silica Hazard Awareness Seminar
Safety is the primary priority of every construction job site and worker, and this class teaches the means to reduce harmful exposure to respirable crystalline silica. Such exposure can occur when cutting or demolishing a hard substrate like concrete, brick, rock, stone, and tiles. This course will also breakdown the new permissible exposure limits and required record keeping.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Define what respirable crystalline silica is
- Identify where respirable crystalline silica is encountered
- Paraphrase the definitions and the hazards associated with silica dust and silica dust exposure
- Explain the different ways workers are exposed to silica dust
- Describe the health effects of silica dust exposure
- Explain the essentials of OSHA’s respirable crystalline silica Standard for Construction
- Identify and describe OSHA methods of compliance to prevent silica dust exposure
- Explain how workers and employers can avoid silica dust hazards through engineering controls, work practices, and personal protective equipment.

Prerequisites |
Attending students MUST be able to verbally communicate with teaching instructors in the primary language of the training offered. Per OSHA 1926.1153, effective September 23, 2017, the training covers acceptable exposure limits and the corresponding regulations. |
